Home Office Decor Ideas for Women

An office in a corporate building can sometimes feel dreary or boring, but a woman's home office should feel fun, appealing and definitely filled with a more feminine touch.  By switching up the décor, you can create a space filled with endless possibilities.

Create the chicest home office on the block by:

  • Figuring Out Your Space
  • Organizing With Flair
  • Adding Comfortable Elements
  • Sprucing Up Your Walls
  • Remember Lighting & Greenery

Read on to learn how to make your home office space beautifully personalized and super girly!

Figure Out Your Home Office Space

While the space in your home office should be fun, it shouldn’t feel like a circus. Each element should be cohesive with one another, from the color of the walls to the material of the furniture.

The paint color alone is a part of décor that can make a huge difference. Shades of blue tend to promote feelings of peace and a sense of calmness. Greens can boost creativity, and yellows stimulate and energize.  Take the time to determine which paint color you want. Elle Decor has a list of designer-approved home office paint colors you can refer to here.

For a woman's office, accent walls are a nice touch to add some personality and they don't just need to be a different color. They can be patterned wallpaper or different textured materials. You could even hang a rod and bright curtains to create some depth (and give yourself the perfect backdrop for selfies. #WorkingWoman).

Organize With Flair

You should of course consider organization when decorating your home office, but it doesn’t have to be typical or traditional. Many office essentials are now available in more modern styles that can become décor all on their own. Start with your desk.

Even though most desks are unisex, you can look for one on the chicer side. Or, at the very least, make it a color that stands out. Filing cabinets are a staple in any office, but they’re not very appealing. As an alternative, choose a decorative trunk, dresser, or baskets to hold documents.

Desk organizers and trays are another excellent way to stay productive but don’t exactly dress up your desk. Reach for fun magazine holders instead of the usual mesh trays. When it comes to other office supplies – like tape dispensers or staplers, opt for ones that are colorful and add some pizzazz to your work surface.

You can also choose a decorative vase or mug to hold writing utensils. Perhaps the mug even has a motivational quote on it. Choosing to see these elements as décor rather than supplies will surely change the vibe of your space.

At the same time, don't forget to soften up your area with fun elements such as silk flowers on a bulletin board, a glittery decorative box on top of the filing cabinet, or display a vintage perfume bottle as a statement piece on your desk.

Add Comfortable Elements

Your home office is a place where you’ll brainstorm, be creative, and hopefully produce some of your best work.  That being said, it should be a place where you can get comfortable. Adding a couch or big cozy chair is a way to add comfort, decoration, and a pop of color.

Blankets can be draped over the couch and decorative pillows can be added. Keep in mind, switching out your office chair can also bring out serious "Boss Lady" vibes. Choose a big CEO-style chair but dress it up with fluffy or glittery pillows.

While you want to aim for comfort, you need to also consider if you will be using your home office to potentially meet with clients. If that’s the case, perhaps include a more standard accent chair – something a little less cozy and a bit more professional.

Woven ottomans and footrests are also nice touches. These decorations can be added next to or under your desk. Plus, if you have a small pet, both can double as cozy beds. Adding a throw rug is another way to make your space comfortable, light, and girly. Choose a rug that you'll want to sink your feet into.

Spruce Up Your Walls

Regardless of what color you pick to paint the walls, you still need to jazz them up with some signage, framed photos, or artwork. If you prefer to display photos, you can choose to design a gallery wall. This can also act as an accent wall as well.

For a cohesive look, select frames that are the same color and material and simply change up the sizes. If you’re into photo editing, put the same filter on all of the photos you’re displaying. For more information on creating a gallery wall, check out Style By Emily Henderson.

Keep in mind, the photos don't have to be of you, your family, or friends. Create a gallery wall of places you’ve been, moments in nature, or even artwork pieces that speak to your hobbies. To make your space extra fit for a queen, try finding pictures of lipsticks, makeup brushes, or dazzling jewelry.

For some people, reading motivational and inspirational quotes do more for productivity; and a home office is the best place to display those kinds of signage. Pick out your favorite quotes, get them printed and framed (or put on canvases), and line your walls with empowering words.

Vinyl decals can be added right to the wall for a more seamless look. If you want to awaken your inner boss lady, only choose quotes by strong female leaders and include photos of those you admire. Don’t underestimate the confidence that comes from a room full of girl power reminders. Once again, if you will be meeting with clients in your home, be mindful of the photos, artwork, or quotes you’re selecting.

Remember Lighting & Greenery

Choosing decorative lighting is a nice addition to your home office. Whether it’s a decorative lampshade, a bold floor lamp, or a wall lighting fixture – it will lighten up the space (pun intended).  A more creative approach to lighting is choosing light-up neon signs or hanging string lights around the perimeter. If you have a certain color palette throughout the space, choose a set of matching lights.

Plants and greenery are not only important elements in mental health and productivity; they are great for decoration and aesthetics. If space permits, a large plant can be the perfect decoration in the corner of your workspace. Planting Tree offers some insight into picking the right plants. Take some time to decide if you are more of a fan of majesty palms or small fiddle leaf figs.

Conclusion

There is no right or wrong way to decorate a woman's home office. The space should speak to you. Add decorations that make you feel empowered, motivate you to be your best, and make you feel like the powerful woman that you are.
